On this day in 1944, thousands of Canadians stormed the beaches of Normandy alongside other Allied troops during the Second World War. Hundreds more parachuted down from the skies, landing farther inland.
D-Day marked the beginning of the Battle of Normandy. Although victory was still almost a year away, it was a turning point in the Second World War in Europe.
Today, 77 years later, we remember the heroic efforts of every Canadian who fought on D-Day and in the Battle of Normandy.
